Wednesdays from 1/20 Lutheran Family Services of Colorado (LFS) is recruiting foster families for Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URMs), children legally resettled in the United States by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. These are resilient children who have survived trauma, life in refugee camps, and separation from their families. LFS will certify families or individuals as foster homes for URMs and will provide training and support. Classes will be held on 8 consecutive Wednesday’s beginning January 20, 2010. The foster parents should be interested in learning about the culture of the children and able to help the children establish ties with people from similar cultural and ethnic backgrounds as well as adjust to local culture. If you are interested in more information, or to arrange an orientation prior to the classes, please call Kara Houck.
