Purpose

Serves as a core resource to strengthen the Christian faith of the John XXIII community (children, youth, adults), with a special emphasis on university ministry, faith formation, religious education, liturgical and music ministries, pastoral care, and the theologian- in-residence program. Other members of the larger Fort Collins community may use the resources if they have registered with the library.

Resources

Includes over a 1,000 titles: books, magazines, audio cassettes, videos, digital discs and products. When available, use of online resources and digital products is encouraged in place of the acquisition of printed materials. For example, the complete Catechism of the Catholic Church is available online along with many other church documents and reference tools.

Collection Policy

ICollects most categories on a highly selective basis that represent titles of high quality. Preference is given to materials issued during the past twenty-five years unless they are classics in the field; gift items are added to the collection if they are in good condition, fit into the collection policy, and do not duplicate existing items. There are multiple copies of some titles that have been acquired for small faith-sharing groups. See titles with a prefix of GC (Group Collection). Materials readily available from other local libraries and repositories will generally not be acquired.

Locating Materials

There are three lists, one by authors, one by titles, and one by subjects. Note that titles that begin with articles such as “A,“ “An,“ and “The” are not used in the filing. To locate an item on any of the lists you need to note the classification number. Also check the prefix to the classification number to determine whether the item is a book, video, or audio item. See the list of prefixes below. Printed materials can be located by going directly to the shelves. All audio and video materials are locked in cabinets. You can obtain a key at the reception desk in the office for these cabinets.

Checking Out Materials

All library materials (books, audio and video items) have a checkout card for each item or container. Please fill out the card by printing you name, phone number, and the current date. Deposit the card in the appropriate box in the office or near the book shelves.
